After updating the Beach Plastic Inventory I decided that it would be interesting to see other peoples finds. So I have created, with a little coding help form my friend Neil at Beamtwenty3 an on-line site to do this. If you find a beached plastic object take a photo and email it to me from the contact button on the website. You will find all the details and information to do this from the navigation links.

Get some fresh salty sea air, some exercise, and at the same time have fun hunting for interesting plastic objects washed up on to the shore to take photos of. Then send them to me via the site and I will publish your find along with others. Be part of this collaborative art project, and help also to create more awareness of the plastic pollution of our seas.

Strangled Sea Bird

Going through folders on my pc, I remembered a series of 25 photos I took of the corpses of sea birds on Chesil Beach, Portland, Dorset, UK in 2002. The walk was a 15 min stretch at the most and I don't think I photographed all of them.

The discarded nylon lines of fishermen have claimed the life of many a beautiful bird and this Gannet was one of them. Please take your rubbish home!

Marine Conservation Society Art Auction at Deutsche Bank HQ London

Late last year MCS was chosen as one of 2 charities to be Deutsche Bank's charity of the Year 2010. In March of this year an art auction to raise funds for The Marine Conservation Society will take place at the London head quarters of Deutsche Bank.

Invited Artist from across the UK have submitted work for this cause and I was lucky enough to be asked. I have gladly donated a Blue Marine/Beach Plastic combination piece, (See here), and fully support the good work MCS do, best of luck.

Beach Plastic Inventory Updated January 2010
19/1/10, 18:13

The first Update of the Marine Plastic Inventory of 2010, including the image below, showing not only the object that I picked up (another pencil sharpener), but 15 other plastic pieces in the small area of the photograph, such is the scale of the pollution of our beaches, and that wasn't a bad day either.
